Santa Clara - 11/17/2008 - Macrovision Solutions Corporation (NASDAQ: MVSN), a digital entertainment technology leader, and Hitachi Software Engineering Co., Ltd. (HitachiSoft) announced today an agreement in which HitachiSoft will distribute the Macrovision Connected Platform in Japan. The Connected Platform is a comprehensive software solution for developing consumer entertainment products such as digital TVs, set-top boxes and personal video recorders.
The new agreement enables Macrovision and HitachiSoft to expand local service coverage in Japan to support consumer electronics manufacturers looking to develop and differentiate their digital media devices using the Macrovision Connected Platform software development kit (SDK). HitachiSoft will also provide a range of professional services including software product support, system integration and customization for the Connected Platform.
According to In-Stat, a high-tech market research firm, worldwide shipments of consumer electronics products will grow to 3.1 billion units by 2011. In-Stat also believes that the Asia/Pacific market will be one of several global regions that will lead in overall growth rates. As consumers want to be able to easily find and enjoy digital media — TV shows, movies, music, photos and Internet content — via multiple devices, manufacturers need to develop easy-to-use solutions that provide an intuitive, rich user experience while at the same time meet evolving interoperability standards.
Macrovision’s Connected Platform media player and media server software are “DLNA Technology Components,” providing enabling technologies that help CE manufacturers make DLNA-certified products. Macrovision’s Connected Platform Media Player Solution is a test bed reference device for the DLNA certification program. HitachiSoft’s service capabilities will include DLNA testing of devices, facilitating a seamless DLNA certification process for its customers. In addition, the collaboration with Macrovision allows HitachiSoft to optimize its software products with the Connected Platform, providing customers with an integrated solution for fast time-to-market.
“Macrovision’s Connected Platform is the industry’s most full-featured software foundation for networked digital media products,” said Kazuhiro Fujisaki, Group Executive, Embedded Systems Group, HitachiSoft. “Macrovision’s innovative technology platform coupled with our comprehensive service offerings will help customers meet stringent product development schedules and ultimately, provide consumers with a rewarding personal entertainment experience.”
“Japan is a region of strategic importance to us and we are committed to our local customers here,” said Akitaka Nishimura, senior vice president, Asia Pacific, Macrovision. “By boosting our presence in Japan and teaming with HitachiSoft, we have the flexibility to support our growing customer base in Asia Pacific with advanced, turnkey solutions that meet the requirements of the local market.”
Macrovision's Connected Platform SDK is a robust development tool kit designed to help consumer electronics manufacturers create and build custom networked entertainment devices—saving time and money. The Connected Platform SDK meets interoperability standards and runs on a wide range of processors and operating systems.
